I just walked back in my room from putting Hailey to bed. So many thoughts streaming through my mind. My heart fills heavy, yet joyful. Sad, yet happy. Nostalgic, yet excited for the future.

You see, tonight is the last night that we will ever sleep in our little nest, as tomorrow we head a half-mile around the corner to a new house, one just waiting to be made into our home. SO many HUGE memories in this home, ones that will stay in my mind forever. Okay, now tears are streaming down my face. Darn it, this was supposed to be theraputic to put these thoughts down, not open the flood gates.

However, as my dear friend reminded me tonight, I'm not leaving memories behind. I'm taking them and the people who made them with me...to the next house:) Yes, these walls will remain here, but the memories will not.

As I said, this home holds SOOOO many memories...

  • The one that comes from standing crammed (and I DO mean crammed) into a tiny sales office with a hundred other eager homeowners-to-be, just waiting and hoping for our name to be called, to purchase "ours."
  • After not getting called at the "lottery," picking up the phone two days after getting engaged to find out we were "next in line" to select our lot!
  • Countless trips to watch the step-by-step process in building our first home.
  • Putting our favorite verse on the concrete in the doorway...Joshua 24:15..."as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord"
  • Signing escrow papers six weeks before our wedding:)
  • Getting the call during my student teaching days, to come pick up the keys, after waiting what seemed like an eternity!
  • Coming home a married woman to "our home."
  • Bringing our babies home from the hospital to this house
  • Laboring in the tub with both my babies...heck, Michael was almost born in my bathtub;)
  • Preparing the nursery, hoping to make it "just right" for our babes!
  • Feeling "cozy" and content when I walk through the doors
  • The neighbs...love our tight-knit street!
  • Gosh, there's so much more...

Well, goodbye little house...you've served us well and we will NEVER forget what a wonderful "starting ground" you've been for us! Onto the next journey...
